Field Notes

All aboard the Danish express! We’ve just got back from a fun packed weekend in Copenhagen, hunting out clean Scandinavian design as well as ticking the tourist boxes.

Thanks to some careful planning our hotel was only 100 metres from the original Mikkeller bar which offered 20 fruity and flavoursome brews, cheers!

Our first day continued with a few drinks on a floating beach at Kayak bar, some pulled duck, butter chicken, burgers and japchae at the street food mecca of Street Food Copenhagen. The night rounded up in Freetown Christiania a hippie commune founded in 1971.

Saturday began with a trip to Design Museum Denmark where we treated our eyes to beautifully printed posters and eye catching, functional furniture.

The rest of the day was filled exploring the city, seeing the Little Mermaid statue, drooling over everything for sale in Hay House and a look around Norse Projects.

Saturday evening we ate at Warpigs Brewpub, a joint venture between Danish brewery Mikkeller and American brewery 3 Floyds. Located in the Meatpacking district this old slaughterhouse has become a meat and beer lovers dream.

Copenhagen is a brilliant city with more independent eateries and bars we could squeeze into our short visit. With plenty of food for thought and brains sufficiently lubricated we’ re back home and raring to go with a bag full of new ideas. Thanks for having us Denmark!
