Shaking Up Co-op's Canned Cocktails
Throughout our decade-long partnership with Co-op, we've had the pleasure of refreshing everything from their coffee to curry. And more recently, we got the chance to inject some more personality, storytelling, and craft into their alcoholic drinks. Our kind of brief.
Just in time to catch the last of the summer sun, the first range thirsty for a revamp was their ready-to-drink cocktails. In a category where appearance is everything (we drink with our eyes afterall) we needed to serve a double shot of excitement. So, in the absence of the frills and theatre of a cocktail glass, it was our job to get the cans working much harder to catch consumers' eyes.
Mixing up a medley of modern graphics and playful illustration, we amplified the character of each concoction in a vibrant, contemporary, way – without any danger of them feeling like second-best to the big brand drink giants.
Now, a simple structure unifies the entire range, with the Co-op brand taking more of a back seat to act as a subtle sign-off on each can.
First on the menu was the Margarita, where we drew inspiration from contemporary Mexican street food design, featuring vibrant, clashing colours and desert-esque illustrations.
The G&T took on a more sophisticated, adult approach with a playful flamingo twist, using the silver of the can to reinforce the low-calorie call out.
For the Passionfruit Martini, we channelled the tropical, fruitiness of the cocktail with an illustrative, escapist scene.
When it came to the Pina Colada, we captured the vibe of a beachside cocktail shack with angular type and cartoon-style illustration.
And finally, for the Vodka Cranberry, we mixed fruity fun with an adult edge, reimagining cranberries as beach balls in a rippled vodka pool.
Thirsty for more? Of course you are. Don’t fear, we’ll be dropping more from the world of Co-op drinks very soon…
