Humans of Holbeck

Humans of Holbeck

17 October 2018

Last week we celebrated Holbeck through an exhibition which saw a collaboration between local charity HEALeeds and our frends at Northern Monk brewery, with help from us at Robot Food and Awesome Merchandise.

The aim of the collaboration was to change perceptions of the area and the two organisations gave residents of Holbeck the opportunity to share how they see their home through photography.

We’ve been proud to call Holbeck, our home for six years now, so were happy to help with this charity mission.

To forge this new narrative, service users from the area were asked to capture their home in a new light. We then, with help from our friends at Awesome Merch, turned these images and stories into a charity calendar that was available to purchase at the exhibition and online.

Friday night we headed next door to the Northern Monk tap rooms to try some of the limited addition pale ale and meet some of the lovely people behind the mission. I had the pleasure of meeting Mary West who began working at Marshall’s Mill in the 50s when she was only 13, ‘as yer did in those days.’ She told me about her first job, where she met her late husband and I felt fortunate to be working in the same building where she had the time of her life.

There's sure to be more to come from the project and we're excited to be involved in something that brings our community together!
